Washington, 27 September 2025 (dpa/MIA) - US President Donald Trump on Friday said talks to end the Gaza war had been "very inspired and productive," offering a real chance for a successful outcome.
"There is more Goodwill and Enthusiasm for getting a Deal done, after so many decades, than I have ever seen before," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
"Everyone is excited to put this period of Death and Darkness behind them," he wrote. "We must get the Hostages back, and get a PERMANENT AND LONGLASTING PEACE!"
Trump described the talks as very inspiring and productive, saying intensive negotiations with Middle East representatives have been under way for four days and will continue as long as necessary to reach a deal.
He added that all countries in the region are involved, without providing further details, noting that the Palestinian militant group Hamas is aware of the discussions and that Israel has also been informed.
Trump had already raised hopes earlier in the day, telling reporters on the South Lawn of the White House, "I think we have maybe a deal on Gaza."
He spoke of things being "very close to a deal on Gaza," and said "I think it's a deal that will get the hostages back. It's going to be a deal that will end the war."
The exact status of the negotiations remains unclear. Trump had repeatedly expressed hope in the past - but a breakthrough has yet to materialize.
Negotiations on the Gaza war had recently picked up speed again on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Trump had presented a 21-point plan for peace in the Middle East to Arab heads of state and government. According to US media, the initiative includes demands for a permanent ceasefire, the release of hostages and a gradual withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Gaza Strip, as well as a proposal for a government for the coastal region without the involvement of the Islamist Hamas.
The Arab states are demanding that Israel refrain from annexing parts of the West Bank or the Gaza Strip. Trump made it clear on Thursday that he would "not allow" Israel to annex the West Bank.
