Trump calls Ukrainian President Zelensky a 'dictator'

Washington, 19 February 2025 (dpa/MIA) - US President Donald Trump continued to round on Volodymyr Zelensky, calling the Ukrainian president "a dictator" in comments on Trump's Truth Social platform on Wednesday.
"A Dictator without Elections, Zelenskyy better move fast or he is not going to have a Country left," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
"In the meantime, we are successfully negotiating an end to the War with Russia, something all admit only 'TRUMP,' and the Trump Administration, can do," the president asserted.
Trump had claimed on the campaign trail that he could end the Ukraine conflict within 24 hours of taking office.
"Biden never tried, Europe has failed to bring Peace, and Zelenskyy probably wants to keep the 'gravy train' going," Trump added.
"I love Ukraine, but Zelenskyy has done a terrible job, his Country is shattered, and MILLIONS have unnecessarily died."
Trump also claimed that Zelensky had a very low approval rating.
Zelensky told a press conference in Kyiv that he, in fact, has an approval rating of over 50 percent.
He also said Trump "is living in a disinformation space" created by Russia.
Zelensky's remarks came a day after Trump baselessly blamed Ukraine for starting the war with Russia and suggested Kiev could have already ended it.
Trump's apparent wish to see Zelensky pushed aside and his claims he is unpopular and should face an election echo the talking point Russian President Vladimir Putin uses to question Zelensky's political legitimacy.
Trump has taken positions in recent days that align with Russia's view on how the war should end, including ruling out NATO membership for Ukraine and a return of territory held by Ukraine before 2014.
