Trump calls on Israel to stop bombing Gaza as Hamas agrees to plan

Washington, 4 October 2025 (dpa/MIA) - US President Donald Trump has welcomed the response from Hamas to his peace plan and urged Israel to "immediately stop the bombing of Gaza," in a post on Truth Social on Friday.

"Based on the Statement just issued by Hamas, I believe they are ready for a lasting PEACE," Trump said.

He said Israel had to immediately stop the bombing of Gaza to enable the release of the hostages. "Right now, it’s far too dangerous to do that," he said.

The Palestinian Islamist organization Hamas said in a statement it agreed to most of Trump's plan to end war, including releasing all hostages, but that some points need further negotiation.

Hamas said it would "release all Israeli captives — both the living and the remains of the dead — according to the exchange formula outlined in President Trump’s proposal."

"Hamas affirms its readiness to enter immediately, through mediators, into negotiations to discuss the details," it said, as long as "appropriate conditions for the exchange on the ground are guaranteed," though it was unclear what the conditions were.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said Israel was ready to implement the "first stage" of Trump’s plan in regards to the release of hostages.

"We will continue to work in full cooperation with the president and his team to end the war in accordance with the principles laid out by Israel, which correspond with Trump’s vision for ending the war," a statement said.

Netanyahu's statement made no reference to Trump's call for Israel to cease its attacks in the Gaza Strip.

The latest proposal

Hamas was referring to the 20-point proposal, agreed by Trump and Netanyahu, which includes an immediate ceasefire, an exchange of the remaining hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, the gradual withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Gaza Strip and the disarmament of Hamas.

It also calls for the area to be governed by a transitional government of Palestinian technocrats under the supervision of an international body.

Under Trump's plan, Israel may not annex or occupy the Gaza Strip.
It calls for the Israeli army to gradually withdraw from the Gaza Strip.

Hamas is not to be allowed to participate in the future administration of the coastal area. Under the plan, Hamas members who surrender their weapons and commit to "peaceful coexistence" can receive amnesty or leave the country. Israel may neither annex nor permanently occupy the Gaza Strip.

Under the plan, no Palestinian resident of the Gaza Strip should be forced to leave; departure and return should be on a voluntary basis. An international stabilization force (ISF) would ensure security and at the same time train Palestinian police forces.

To rebuild the area, which has been largely destroyed in two years of war, an internationally financed Trump Plan for Economic Development, investments and a special economic zone are planned to create jobs.

On October 7, 2023, hundreds of gunmen from Hamas and allied groups stormed into southern Israel and killed around 1,200 people and abducted more than 250 hostages to the Gaza Strip, sparking the current war.

More than 66,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli attacks in the sealed-off coastal region since the start of the bloodshed, according to its Hamas-controlled health authority, in figures viewed as credible by the UN.
