Paris/Munich, 1 June 2025 (dpa/MIA) - There were chaotic scenes and arrests in the French capital during and after Paris Saint-Germain's victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League final in Munich on Saturday.
According to the newspaper Le Parisien, French police said there were tensions on the Champs-Élysées boulevard and near the Parc des Princes stadium, caused by people with "bad intentions."
Police intervened to restore calm. According to the BFMTV channel, dozens of people were arrested for carrying fireworks.
French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau wrote on X about "barbarians" who provoked the police while real fans were enjoying the match on television. PSG won 5-0 for their first European Cup.
In host city Munich, the fan festival at the Olympic Park was closed hours before the final because it was full.
Around 20,000 people had been admitted to watch the match on a big screen, a city spokesman said. Some fans later sneaked in because a fence was missing.
According to police, people fought at the University underground station in Munich and pepper spray was used. There were other occasional clashes between the two fan camps, but police reported no major incidents.
One Munich underground train also had to emergency brake, which caused delays for fans heading to the final at the Allianz Arena. The cause was initially unknown.
Dpa reporters said traffic was at a standstill at times heading towards the ground, but there was no major problems after the game as fans left at different times.
