Trenchevska: N. Macedonia commitment to protecting the rights of children
Skopje, August 30, 2022 (MIA) - On the second day of the presentation of the Report of the Republic of North Macedonia following the UN Convention on Children’s Rights in Geneva, the delegation led by Minister of Labor and Social Policy Jovanka Trenchevska participated in an interactive dialogue with the aim to explain the achievements of the country in the field of children's rights. Ministry representatives also answered questions posed by the members of the Committee, the Labor Ministry says. “Our country’s commitment is more than obvious and we will remain consistent with it in the future. According to what was presented through the national report, the list of answers to additional questions and the two sessions of the interactive dialogue, the national commitment to the promotion and protection of the basic human rights of children as an individual is clearly shown. The achieved progress is noted, but at the same time it represents an incentive to strengthen our efforts in the direction of guaranteeing the best interest of the child and respecting children's rights in every aspect, Trenchevska said. The Ministry says that the representatives of the delegation answered the questions that are of interest to their ministry and that they gave a detailed account of the work and commitments of the Republic of North Macedonia. “The multi-sector approach as well as the involvement of civil organizations in overcoming the challenges and promoting children’s fundamental rights were emphasized,” says the Labor Ministry. People with disabilities were also in focus of the discussion, in which the minister emphasized that even if there is only one child with a disability in a given country, policies and measures should be implemented to enable their inclusion in all social spheres. dk/ba/
