Trenchevska: Anti-crisis measures to support vulnerable groups during winter

Skopje, 12 September 2023 (MIA) - Government and ministers in economy sector are discussing the anti-crisis measures which will include financial support to vulnerable families during the winter, Minister of Labour and Social Policy Jovanka Trenchevska said on Tuesday.

“A new package of anti-crisis measures is to be unveiled. We will open a debate that will include relevant stakeholders, civil sector and chambers of commerce to respond to the needs of vulnerable groups and the real sector,” Trenchevska told reporters prior to the conference "Femicide in North Macedonia and the Western Balkans – International Standards and Case-Law of Courts" conference taking place in Skopje.

After last week's government decision on redistribution of budget funds, which foresees finances for anti-crisis measures, as she pointed out, very soon we will have proposals that will be adopted by the government.

If necessary, she noted, legal amendments will be prepared, in order to protect the most vulnerable groups of citizens ahead of winter.

Finance Minister Fatmir Besimi said last week that the Government will soon unveil the ninth package of anti-crisis measures, in the amount of Mden 4.55 billion (EUR 73.8 billion).

The package will ease the challenges stemming from the price and energy crisis for citizens and companies.

"This means that the Government will continue to subsidize electricity for households and heating from the Power Plants of North Macedonia (ESM). There are enough funds, and we are working on the ninth package of anti-crisis measures. Additionally, we will continue with the targeted measures until the end of the year to support the most vulnerable groups," noted Minister Besimi.
