Skopje, 30 August 2023 (MIA) — Border police rescued three people caught in a storm at Lake Dojran on Wednesday, the Crisis Management Center said.

Around 8:30 am, the CMC received a 112 emergency number call that three people were stranded on a boat at Lake Dojran after being caught in a storm.

The wind and waves had pushed the boat away from the shore and far out into the lake. Even after multiple attempts, the three people could not regain control of the boat to return to shore, the CMC said.

Based on their coordinates forwarded by the CMC to the border police, a team located the boat amid the turbulent waters of the lake and went into the storm on a speedboat.

"A dramatic rescue mission followed, amid strong winds and big waves, and they managed to get the three people to safety," the CMC said. ssh/mr
