Skopje, 1 December 2024 (MIA) — All traffic has been banned on the regional road from Tetovo to Popova Shapka due to heaps of snow on the road, and the Crisis Management Center reported some cars were stranded at the entrance of Popova Shapka, "the result of negligent citizens who drove to Popova Shapka with summer tires," the CMC said earlier on Sunday.
"The road is passable," it said. "Two vehicles are cleaning it. The problems were caused by people. Vehicles with snow tires are traversing the road without any problems."
Around 20 vehicles were also stranded in the snow between the Radika hotel and Bunec in Mavrovo, the CMC said. The vehicles include a fire truck from the Gostivar Fire Department. At the time of reporting, they were waiting for a more powerful snow blower to clear the road.
According to the national weather service, the precipitation will be more intense in the south and west (over 30 l/m2). Mountains and higher altitude places will mostly see snow.
On Sunday morning, Mavrovi Anovi had the highest snow cover (61 cm). Snow also fell in Krushevo, Popova Shapka, Debar, Pretor, Bitola and Berovo. mr/
