Ten head of cattle die of anthrax in southwest Bosnia and Herzegovina

Zagreb, 30 August 2025 (Hina/MIA) - Ten cattle have died of anthrax on a farm in Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, marking the first reported outbreak of the disease among animals in Bosnia and Herzegovina this year.

A total of ten infected cattle died this week on a farm in Bosansko Grahovo, southwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the remaining animals have been placed in quarantine, according to a statement from the Federal Civil Protection Administration.

After suspicions of infection arose, the veterinary clinic in Livno took blood samples from three of the deceased animals. Laboratory analysis conducted at the Veterinary Faculty in Sarajevo confirmed the presence of the infectious disease.

The cantonal veterinary inspection immediately implemented all legally prescribed measures.
