Gostivar, 29 May 2023 (MIA) – Speaking at a "Civil Dialogue for Relations Between Communities" debate organized by CIVIL NGO, Gostivar Mayor Arben Taravari said Gostivar should serve as a role model for interethnic relations in North Macedonia, according to MIA's Gostivar correspondent.

Mayor Tavari said Gostivar was a excellent example of interethnic coexistence.

"During the first term we placed Turkey's flag in front of the municipal office. During the second term, the Roma flag. We are the only municipality in the world to do so. As you can see, flags of all ethnic communities have been raised in front of the municipal office building," Taravari said.

According to him, the country should follow Gostivar's example of coexistence in a multiethnic society.

"I often and with pride say North Macedonia should look to Gostivar as a role model, being a town where ethnic communities cooperate and coexist.

"This coexistence is a shining example of a multiethnic society. Cultural life develops jointly, everywhere, and we may say that we are different from other municipalities in North Macedonia," Taravari said. ssh/mr
