Survey: Children in North Macedonia spend their playtime with grandparents more than with parents
Skopje, 20 November 2021 (MIA) — Оlder members of the immediate family, and not the child’s parents, are the ones who devote the most time to the early development and responsive care of children in North Macedonia, including playtime activities, according to the State Statistical Office’s latest survey released on World Children's Day, Nov. 20. According to the survey results, only 32 percent of children have playtime activities with their dads, 73 percent with their moms, and a whopping 88 percent of children spend their playtime with another adult member of their family. The largest percentage of children, or 94 percent, play with store-bought toys, and only 14 percent play with homemade toys. As many as 60 percent of children play with household objects or found objects instead of toys, and 62 percent of children have two or more toys in their homes. In addition, the survey found, 55 percent of children in North Macedonia have three or more children's books; 45 percent have fewer. mr/
