Struga Poetry Evenings to take place on August 22-26

Struga, 19 July 2024 (MIA) - More than 25 foreign and many domestic poets will take part at the 63rd international poetry festival "Struga Poetry Evening" on August 22-26, held this year under slogan "Touch of Beauty".

The festival fire will be traditionally lit at the opening ceremony in front of the "Miladinov Brothers" culture center, whereas awards "Golden Wreath", "Miladinov Brothers", "Struga Bridges" and "Young Struga" will be presented at the closing event and traditional poetry reading "Meridians" on the Poetry Bridge.

Struga Poetry Evenings national institution director Todorche Tasevski told a press conference on Friday that this year's slogan aims to honor the Braille Letter, which gives visually impaired persons an opportunity to feel the beauty of poetry.

The poetry portrait of this year's "Golden Wreath" laureate Jean-Pierre Siméon from France, will be held on August 24 in the St.Sophia cathedral church in Ohrid.

The festival program also includes observances of the 90th anniversary from the birth of Macedonian poet Petre M. Andreevski and 95 years from the birth of Macedonian poet Gane Todorovski.

"Struga Bridges" laureate, German poetess Katrin Pitz, the "Miladinov Brothers" winner, who is yet to be unveiled, as well as "Young Struga" recipient Filipa Sara Popova, will also be presented during the festival.

A special event with selected poets from Versopolis, a European poetry platform that creates new opportunities for emerging European poets, will also be held.

In addition, monographs, anthologies, and poetry collections are to be promoted during the festival.

Since 1961, Struga Poetry Evenings has demonstrated the power of poetry to unite the world.
