Stoltenberg kicks off Western Balkan tour, to visit Skopje on Tuesday

Brussels, 19 November 2023 (MIA) – NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will travel to Sarajevo on Sunday - the first destination in his visit to four Western Balkan countries, as part of which he will arrive in Skopje on Tuesday. Apart from meetings with the leaders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Serbia, and North Macedonia, during his tour the Secretary General will also meet with leaders of Allied countries from the region, reports MIA’s Brussels correspondent.

 

According to a NATO press release, Stoltenberg will kick off his tour of the region with a working dinner with the members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina. On Monday he will meet with the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, as well as with the Chairlady of the country’s Council of Ministers, Borjana Krišto. Stoltenberg will also visit the NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo, where he will meet with military leaders and representatives of the international community.

 

After his meetings in Sarajevo, the Secretary General will depart Monday afternoon to Pristina where he will meet with the President and Prime Minister of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu and Albin Kurti.

He will also visit NATO’s KFOR Camp Nothing Hill in Kosovo, where he will meet with KFOR’s Commander Major General Ulutaş, and the Director of the NATO Advisory and Liaison Team, Brigadier General Ralf Hammerstein. Stoltenberg will also address the KFOR troops at Camp Nothing Hill.

 

On Tuesday morning, Stoltenberg will be in Belgrade for talks with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Prime Minister Ana Brnabić. He will also meet with Serbian scientists, who will present technology developed in the context of NATO’s Science for Peace and Security projects.

In the afternoon, the Secretary General will arrive in Skopje, where he will meet with President Stevo Pendarovski and Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski. He will also meet Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi and address the Parliament of North Macedonia.

On Wednesday, Stoltenberg and Kovachevski will meet in Skopje with the leaders of NATO countries from the region – the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama; the President of Croatia, Zoran Milanović; the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milojko Spajić; and the Prime Minister of Slovenia, Robert Golob.
