State Opera Plovdiv to perform one act ballets in Skopje

Skopje, 17 February 2023 (MIA) — State Opera Plovdiv ballet dancers will perform the one act ballets "The Long Christmas Dinner" and "Women in d minor," choreographed by Radu Poklitaru, at the National Opera and Ballet.

The performance is a collaboration between the National Ballet and Opera and the Bulgarian Cultural Center in Skopje, organizers said in a press release.

The set designer is Andrey Zlobin, the costume designer is Dmytro Kuryata, and the lighting designer is Lena Antokhina.

According to the release, “The Long Christmas Dinner" is a reflection on the transience of life, on the vain and useless things people spend their lives on. The plot follows an aristocratic family over ninety years, shown through a series of Christmas dinners.

Set to music by Antonio Vivaldi, the ballet was based on the 1931 play by Thornton Wilder.

"Women in d minor" is a homage to the genius of J. S. Bach. The choreographer Poklitaru tells a tragic story of a non-existent female friendship which gives way to "an unfolding of unusually complex multi-figure compositions and penetrating duet fragments," the release adds. mr/
