Speaker Xhaferi closes no-confidence vote session, Government remains in place

Speaker Xhaferi closes no-confidence vote session, Government remains in place
Skopje, 11 November 2021 (MIA) – A Government no-confidence vote cannot take place because the session agenda was not adopted. Therefore, the Government remains in place and continues with its duties. The session is now closed, said Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi after the midnight deadline expired. “Considering that the petitioners did not have a quorum for adoption of the agenda, a debate on the Government no-confidence vote could not be opened. Therefore, the Government remains in place and continues with its duties. The subject matter for the session has been exhausted and I hereby close the session. I wish the Government success in the coming period,” said Speaker Xhaferi. Only the Government members led by Prime Minister Zoran Zaev attended this evening's session. Earlier in the day, Vice-Speaker Fadil Zendeli interrupted the session due to lack of quorum. Sixty lawmakers were present, while SDSM and DUI MPs were absent from the Parliament, as was Besa MP Kastriot Rexhepi, who said in a Facebook post that he would not take part in the session. The Parliament’s Rules of Procedures stipulates that the Parliament can make decisions if a session is attended by a majority of the total number of MPs, namely 61 out of 120.
