Speaker Gashi meets Turkish Ambassador Ulusoy

Skopje, 19 June 2024 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi met Wednesday with Turkish Ambassador Fatih Ulusoy, concurring that the two countries nurture excellent friendly relations and cooperation.

Gashi extended gratitude for Turkey's overall support to North Macedonia since the country's independence, the Parliament said in a press release. The intensity of meetings at the highest level, it adds, also testifies to the level of mutual cooperation.

"The countries are connected by historical and cultural ties, and the citizens from the Turkish community in the country are a bridge between the two countries. December 21 Turkish Language Day is regularly celebrated in our country, and is traditionally attended by the President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Parliamentary groups for friendship and cooperation are established and successfully functioning in both parliaments, and there is fruitful cooperation within the framework of international parliamentary assemblies," Gashi told the meeting with the Turkish Ambassador.

In terms of economy, culture and education, the press release reads, mutual relations are at the highest level. Turkey, Gashi pointed out, is among our most important trade partners and a country that continuously invests in the Macedonian economy in various sectors and appears as a strategic investment partner.

In addition, Turkey was a principled supporter of our NATO membership, where we are now allies, and hopes are that soon both countries will be part of the European Union.

Interlocutors expressed confidence that the fruitful cooperation at the highest parliamentary and state level will continue in the current parliamentary composition, with mutual visits.
