Skopje, 14 January 2025 (MIA) – Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi met Tuesday with the Norwegian Special Representative for the Western Balkans, Eirik Nestås Mathisen. They welcomed the excellent political relations and friendship stressing they are further strengthened by being members in NATO.

Non-resident Norwegian Ambassador Kristin Melsom also attended the meeting, said the Parliament. 

“Speaker Gashi said the appointment of a special envoy for the Western Balkans demonstrated the Norwegian government’s interest into the region. He thanked Norway for its strong support for the European ambitions of the Republic of North Macedonia, which has close ties with the EU although not being a member of the bloc,” said the press release.

Views on how to accelerate the country’s accession path were shared given Mathisen’s long experience regarding relations with the EU. 

Also, the work of the ambassadors to the two countries was welcomed for making efforts to improve bilateral relations and cooperation, the press release stated.
