Speaker Gashi meets EEAS official Michalcova Sutiakova: Using open perspectives for sooner opening of negotiating chapters

Skopje, 30 June 2025 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi met Monday with Zuzana Michalcova Sutiakova, Head of the Western Balkans Division at the European External Action Service (EEAS), discussing the degree of implemented reforms related to the country's European Union accession process.

Michalcova Sutiakova said the EU-Western Balkans Leaders’ Meeting in Skopje is another confirmation of the enlargement momentum and the Union's readiness to receive new members in the coming years.

The EEAS official pointed to the utilization of the open perspectives for sooner opening of the negotiating chapters, saying the negotiating framework has been accepted by all member-states, the Parliament said in a press release.

Speaker Gashi said the intensity of meetings with European representatives is a proof of their interest and support to the country's path to full-fledged membership.

"Gashi expressed readiness for realization of the last requirement for continuation of the negotiations, while ensuring certain predictability for the next stages in line with the Copenhagen criteria. He urged against further bilateralization of the process, which would only add to the Euro-skepticism in the country, adding that a lot of concessions have been made that have an impact on the citizens' support for the Union.

Interlocutors also discussed the laws on equitable representation of all communities in state institutions, the local elections and the Parliament's activities in the coming months, reads the press release.
