Speaker Gashi meets delegation from Turkish Grand National Assembly

Skopje, 25 June 2025 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi received Wednesday a delegation from the Turkish Grand National Assembly’s Türkiye-North Macedonia inter-parliamentary friendship group, led by chair Ahmet Kılıç.

“At the meeting between Speaker Gashi and the Turkish MPs it was concluded that bilateral communication has intensified over the past year on multiple levels, serving as further confirmation of the great and traditional friendship between the two countries and peoples. On this occasion, Speaker Gashi also expressed gratitude for Türkiye's assistance in treating the injured in the tragedy that occurred in Kochani in March,” said Parliament in a press release.

According to the press release, Gashi also expressed his commitment to further enhancement of parliamentary cooperation, pointing to an opportunity to intensify communication between the working bodies covering the same areas in the two parliaments.

The group’s chair, Ahmet Kılıç, stressed that a serious intensification of high-level bilateral meetings could be noted over the past few months, “which contributes to a further strengthening of relations”.

Speaking about economic relations, Kılıç stressed that a new goal has already been set in this area, after trade between North Macedonia and Turkey surpassed the one-billion-dollar mark.

During the meeting, opinions were also exchanged on the role of the Turkish community in the country, Turkish investments, and the potential for enhancing cooperation in many other areas, such as education, healthcare, or tourism.
