Spasovski: Undertaking all measures for dignified observance of Delchev's birth anniversary

Skopje, 2 February 2023 (MIA) - Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski has provided assurances that the observance of the 151st anniversary from the birth of revolutionary Goce Delchev will go smoothly, saying the police is undertaking all measures for a dignified celebration this Saturday.

"Based on the assessments, we are undertaking measures in order to have an event befitting for the country. We expect everything to run smoothly. Yes, tensions have been raised by radicals from both Macedonia and Bulgaria. They always find fruitful soil for their positions to become visible at such events. Those who are dissatisfied or the ones who want to abuse a certain event are always the most dangerous ones, but this does not mean they represent a majority. The vast majority of Macedonian citizens want and support a dignified celebration of this day, which will happen for sure," Minister Spasovski told Sitel.

All delegations that announced their attendance will be allowed access to the St.Spas church. No official delegation from Bulgaria has reported its attendance until now, whereas the decision on whether to allow the entry of Bulgarian Member of European Parliament (MEP) Angel Dzhambazki and Bulgarian MP Kostadin Kostadinov will be taken "at the right time".

Spasovski says North Macedonia must demonstrate national unity on February 4.

"We must show that we are one when it comes to our national interests. If we show this, no one can threaten us and there is no propaganda stronger than the people who want to achieve their strategic objectives," adds Spasovski.

The MoI has denied claims by the opposition that their members have been summoned by police, saying preventive conversations have taken place with members of fan groups and radical groups.

Regarding the attack on the secretary of the Bulgarian club in Ohrid, Spasovski reiterated that Macedonian institutions, both law enforcement and health, have taken all measures necessary.
