Skopje, 14 July 2023 (MIA) — The National Front for the Fight against Corruption is not a new institution to be established but a mechanism for strengthening the system, including the Interior Ministry, the Public Prosecutor's Office, and the courts, Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski said in a Sitel TV appearance on Friday.
"We are also talking about financial investigations [and improving them] through an IPARD project since we have seen the shortcomings of our system. Many pre-investigation and investigation procedures should be faster and shorter," Spasovski said.
The interior minister stressed that the fight against crime and corruption would not seem effective to members of the public unless they saw criminals serving their sentences.
Regarding the cases of Struga Mayor Ramiz Merko and Ali Ahmeti's nephew Drin Ahmeti, Spasovski said the Interior Ministry was following the instructions of the Public Prosecutor's Office, regardless if the people in question were current or former officials or members of the public. mr/
