Spasovski: Charges possible for all perpetrators who contributed to Skopje 'drowning in waste'

Skopje, 11 July 2023 (MIA) – Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski said Tuesday that a charge has been filed due to violent conduct in the case with the blockade of Public Enterprise “Communal Hygiene” – Skopje.

“Several of the workers on Monday night, after starting work, were attacked by one individual who was also employed in ‘Communal Hygiene’, and the individual was charged for violence and the charges have already been processed at the Public Prosecutor’s Office,” said Spasovski.

Regarding the obstructed work of “Communal Hygiene”, the Interior Minister said he expects the transcript from the Environment Protection Inspectorate, the communal inspectorate and the inspectors from the City of Skopje to be delivered today, in order to examine their findings. He noted that the MoI is in constant coordination with the Prosecution.

“If elements of a crime are identified for all perpetrators who contributed to the capital drowning in waste, criminal charges could be filed in line with the gathered evidence,” said Spasovski.

Additionally, the Interior Minister noted that if it is identified that employees at the enterprise were being paid while not going to work, thereby abusing funds from the budget, then everyone responsible will have to answer.

“There will be no concessions and there will never be concessions over anything, and I think this should be sanctioned so that we can finally put an end to the political games on the backs of the citizens, and the health of the citizens,” said the Interior Minister.

Spasovski added that neither Skopje nor its citizens, deserve what has been happening in recent days, i.e., “the humanitarian environmental catastrophe which endangers the health and lives of the citizens,” regardless of the reason behind it.
