Seoul, 14 January 2024 (dpa/MIA) - North Korea has reportedly once again fired a ballistic missile towards the sea between the Korean peninsula and Japan, the South Korean military announced on Sunday.

Further details were initially not known.

Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have again risen in recent months.

Following an unprecedented series of missile tests in 2022, North Korea tested nuclear-capable missiles several times last year in violation of UN prohibition resolutions.

In response, South Korea and the United States have expanded their joint military exercises.

The last time North Korea tested a long-range missile was in December, and it theoretically had the capability to reach the United States.
