Seoul, 22 March 2023 (dpa/MIA) - North Korea fired several cruise missiles from its east coast in a new weapons test, the general staff of the South Korean armed forces said in Seoul on Wednesday.

According to the report, they flew eastwards towards the sea.

North Korea is banned by UN resolutions from testing ballistic missiles, which - depending on their design - can also carry nuclear warheads.

Tests of cruise missiles are not subject to the sanctions against Pyongyang. However, such weapons can also deploy nuclear warheads.

After an unprecedented series of missile tests last year, North Korea has again tested missiles and guided missiles several times this year. The communist-ruled country is largely isolated internationally.
