South Korea: North Korea deploying additional troops to Russia

Seoul, 27 February 2025 (dpa/MIA) - North Korea has deployed more troops to support Russia's war against Ukraine, according to South Korean intelligence.

The NIS intelligence service believes additional North Korean troops have been sent to the front line in Russia's Kursk region, although the number of recently deployed troops is being assessed, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported on Thursday.

"Following about a monthlong lull, North Korean troops were placed back in the frontline region of Kursk starting in the first week of February," the NIS said, according to Yonhap.

In mid-January, the NIS estimated that around 300 North Korean soldiers were killed and a further 2,700 soldiers were injured in fighting around the Kursk region.

North Korea has provided Russia with around 12,000 soldiers to fight against Ukraine since late last year. The NIS has been cooperating closely with the Ukrainian intelligence service since then.
