Smolare Waterfall's viewing platform destroyed by fire

Strumica, 30 July 2024 (MIA) – The viewing platform at the Smolare Waterfall burned down last night after being caught by a fire, which also burned a nearby forest on Belasica Mountain, the Strumica firefighting unit said Tuesday.

Breaking out at 6 pm, the fire spread quickly affecting a nearby forest in the east toward Belasica.

“The Strumica firefighting unit dispatched quickly two fire engines and six firemen to put out the fire. Its spreading and expanding was successfully prevented,” it said.

The Smolare Waterfall is located above the village of Smolare in the municipality of Novo Selo, in the southeastern region of the country.

It is considered as one of the most popular tourist attractions in the region. Bering 39.5 meters, it is the tallest waterfall in the country.
