London, 18 July 2025 (PA Media/dpa/MIA) - Arsenal have made Olivia Smith the first £1 million ($1.34 million) player in the women’s game after agreeing a world-record fee with Liverpool.
Arsenal confirmed 20-year-old Smith’s arrival on Thursday and the PA news agency understands the move has eclipsed Naomi Girma’s £900,000 switch to Chelsea from San Diego Wave in January.
The Gunners are believed to have seen off competition from a number of clubs – including Women’s Super League champions Chelsea – to land Canadian Smith, who netted seven times in her debut WSL season having joined from Sporting Lisbon for £210,000 just 12 months ago.
