Slovenia reports highest number of daily infections in last two months
Zagreb, 31 July 2021 (Hina/MIA) — Slovenia has reported one Covid-related fatality and 135 new infections after conducting 1,673 tests in the last 24 hours, which is the highest number of new infections this summer and 40 more than a week ago. The number of new infections in a single day is the highest since June 9, when there were 195 new cases. The share of positive cases is 8.1%, up from 6.9% on Friday, when 116 new infections were confirmed. The seven-day average of daily infections has increased to 82, as has the 14-day incidence, which is now 49.5. There are 1,044 active cases and 29 Covid-19 patients are hospitalized, including seven in intensive care. So far, 809,064 people have received the necessary number of vaccine doses, which is 38.4% of the population and too little for protection against the more contagious delta variant and a calm autumn, the government has warned. Health Minister Janez Poklukar has called on citizens to get vaccinated to avoid a worsening of epidemiological indicators in the autumn that would require new restrictions.
