Skopje Cinema City 2025 to focus on Dutch cinema

Skopje, 29 October 2025 (MIA) — The 11th Skopje Cinema City international music documentary film festival will be held Wednesday and Thursday at MKC's Frosina cinema, focusing on the Netherlands, organizers said.

This year's festival lifetime achievement award will be given to Dutch photographer and director Anton Corbijn for his contribution to music, film and photography.

The festival will open with "Control" (2007), a biopic about the late-1970s English post-punk band Joy Division's frontman Ian Curtis "shot in black and white and recognizable for its emotional and visual depth," organizers said.

"Bimhuis Blues" (2005), a documentary by Hans Hylkema about the legendary Amsterdam jazz venue Bimhuis, Ema Zafirovska's animated short film "Motherly Instincts" (2025) and Vidi Vaka's documentary on domestic hip-hop scene "Macedonian Diary in Rhymes" (2024) will be screened Thursday.

The festival ends with the opening of a photo exhibit by Nenad Georgievski titled "Geographies, Faces and Streets," which connects the urban landscape with musical culture, organizers said. mr/
