Sixty-five scholars to attend 57th Macedonian language summer school

Ohrid, 15 August 2024 (MIA) - The Ss. Cyril and Methodius University’s 57th Summer School of the International Seminar on Macedonian Language, Literature, and Culture begins Thursday in Ohrid.
Sixty-five Macedonian language scholars from 17 countries will participate. The summer school will be held until August 29, and this year, for the first time, the awards will be presented.
Macedonian language scholars from Albania, Bulgaria, Italy, Japan, China, Poland, the Republic of Korea, Romania, the Russian Federation, the USA, Slovenia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine, Hungary, Croatia, and the Czech Republic will explore the Macedonian language, literature, and culture, while 81 participants of the 51st International Scientific Conference will contribute to the development of Macedonian studies as an academic discipline.
The 57th Summer School of the International Seminar on Macedonian Language, Literature, and Culture will officially open Friday at the Congress Center in Ohrid.
The event will feature welcoming speeches by the President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Zoran Ljutkov, the Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Dr. Vesna Janevska, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Dr. Timcho Mucunski, the Rector of Skopje-based Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, Prof. Dr. Biljana Angelova and the Director of Summer School of the International Seminar on Macedonian Language, Literature, and Culture, Prof. Dr. Kristina Nikolovska.
The ceremony will include a musical performance by Prof. Dr. Dragan Dautovski on the ocarina, an ancient instrument over 7,000 years old, followed by a vocal performance by Prof. Dr. Andrijana Janevska.
The event will conclude with the presentation of the 56th Summer School Lecture Collection.
For the first time this year, the official opening will feature the presentation of awards, recognizing exceptional work, long-term and decades-long achievements, and contributions to the scientific research and cultural promotion of Macedonian studies.
The summer school is organized with significant support from the Rector of Skopje-based Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, Prof. Dr. Biljana Angelova and the Rectorate. The main financial supporter of the event is the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, while some of the program activities will also be funded by the Municipality of Ohrid and other supporters.
