Siljanovska-Davkova: Galichnik Wedding attracts more visitors each year, remains symbol of Macedonian cultural identity

Skopje, 12 July 2026 (MIA) - Attending the traditional Galichnik Wedding on Sunday, President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova said the event continues to attract an increasing number of visitors from home and abroad each year and remains one of the strongest symbols of the Macedonian cultural identity.

“Today at the Galichnik Wedding, I was welcomed by the youngest people of Galichnik with traditional blessed bread and salt, and then had the opportunity to witness wedding customs that have been preserved for centuries in the Mijak region, representing one of the most authentic expressions of Macedonian cultural heritage,” Siljanovska-Davkova posted on Facebook.

She noted that she congratulated this year's newlyweds, Martina Mihajlova and Aleksandar Pendaroski, on their marriage and, as patron of the Galichnik Wedding, presented them with a traditional Galichnik pafta - an ornamental belt clasp featuring a motif from the traditional Galichnik costume that symbolizes fertility and the richness of Macedonian wedding traditions.

“I wished them a life together filled with love, trust and mutual respect, and a home filled with understanding and the laughter of children. Year after year, continues to attract an increasing number of visitors from home and abroad each year and remains one of the strongest symbols of the Macedonian cultural identity,” Siljanovska-Davkova said.
