Siljanovska-Davkova attends ceremony marking 30 years of Vevchani municipality

Skopje, 8 August 2026 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova attended and delivered an address at the ceremony marking 30 years of the municipality of Vevchani Friday evening.

“For me, Vevchani is synonymous with a republic—a place with its own spirit, character and tradition. I sometimes say that I have dual citizenship: not only Macedonian, but also Vevchani citizenship. I still keep my Vevchani passport, as a proud woman of Vevchani. As a member of the Vevchani Academy of Fine Arts, I spoke, wrote and argued as far back as the 1990s that Vevchani had the right to become an independent municipality, convinced that its historical, cultural and social identity deserved institutional recognition and respect. What could be more important than preserving a place synonymous with Via Egnatia, rebelliousness, resistance, self-respect and a restless spirit that creates, criticizes and endures, passing these values from generation to generation?” Siljanovska-Davkova said in a Facebook post.

Siljanovska-Davkova expressed her sincere gratitude to all Vevchani residents who have contributed a part of themselves to the development of the municipality.

“Congratulations, with sincere wishes for Vevchani to remain original, distinctive and authentic,” the post said.
