Siljanovska Davkova: President's legitimacy comes from citizens

Skopje, 14 April 2024 (MIA) - VMRO-DPMNE presidential candidate Gordana Siljanovska Davkova told a rally in Skopje municipality of Kisela Voda that if elected head of state, she would not differentiate citizens on any grounds - partisan, ethnic, religious or social - but unify them as equals.

Siljanovska Davkova said the president's legitimacy comes from the citizens and that is the best solution for democracy. She reiterated her opposition to the president's election in the Parliament, while noting that the country wants to be part of the European family, where it belongs historically, geographically and culturally, but only if its diversity is respected, as are the diversities of all Union members and candidates.

"Macedonia does not deserve what is happening to it right now. We do not have the right to destroy what we have inherited, our task is to keep it, make it European and remain proud in our homeland. We want to build a country upon a European model. If everyone in Europe says that the constitution is the most internal issue, then please have an understanding about our constitution. We have nothing against constitutional changes that guarantee European standards in all sectors but please do not accept dictates from neighbors that oppose the European values and the European constitutional law. I cannot teach my students European constitutional law and do the opposite in reality," noted Siljanovska Davkova.

Earlier in the day, the VMRO-DPMNE-led coalition also held a rallies in Petrovec and Centar.

Party leader Hristijan Mickoski told the citizens of Centar that the upcoming vote will either make the country proud or "one that DUI and SDSM want it to be".

"Macedonia is moving in the wrong direction, people do not trust institutions. Crime is everywhere, people go to prison for nothing but no one is held responsible for stealing millions," said Mickoski.
