Skopje, 8 April 2026 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova extended International Romani Day - April 8 greetings to the Roma community on Wednesday, noting that the Roma are an integral part of the Macedonian historical and cultural fabric.

"Dear fellow Roma citizens, may you and may we all have a happy April 8 - International Romani Day. I sincerely wish you to celebrate this day in good health, joy and happiness. You, the Romani, are an integral part of the Macedonian historical and cultural fabric. Freedom, pride and unity are special values ​​of the Roma identity and deserve due respect," Siljanovska Davkova said in her greeting.

The President adds that the common Macedonian state is formally and legally a leader in guaranteeing minority rights, within regional and European frameworks, but the real life of the Roma is far from legal guarantees.

Siljanovska Davkova points out that it is high time we realized that the Roma community is the most vulnerable and marginalized category of citizens, and as such deserves the greatest social attention and protection.
