Skopje, 3 December 2024 (MIA) - International Day of Persons with Disabilities reminds us of our commitment to building a society of equal opportunities in which support and understanding are the backbone of daily dedication to integrating the persons who express their capabilities in a different, but equally important way, President Gordana Siljanovska – Davkova says Tuesday in a greeting on International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
These persons, she adds, are an unbreakable part in the ample mosaic of our society.
According to the President, their visibility and active inclusion in the decision-making process is necessary because no one can represent their interests better and stronger than themselves.
“Humanism and solidarity, basic values of the constitutional order, oblige us to see diversity as a source of strength and progress, not as a limitation. Macedonia, being a social state, bases its vision on the principles of equality and justice for all. Thus, equitable and adequate representation must also apply to the persons with disabilities,” says Siljanovska Davkova’s greeting.
The United Nations convention on the rights of the persons with disabilities, which the country has signed and ratified, is not only a legal document, but also a commitment to full inclusion and active participation of these people in all spheres of society, she says.
Siljanovska Davkova urges International Day of Persons with Disabilities to be a symbol of hope and a call for creating an inclusive community.
“It is the only way allowing Macedonia to be a decent place for living, a prosperous country and a home of happy and dignified citizens,” read the President’s greeting on International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
