Skopje, 13 October 2025 (MIA) – SDSM’s candidate for Skopje Mayor, Kaja Shukova, addressed Monday a public forum on the development and future of the Old Skopje Bazaar, stressing that preserving the cultural heritage and integrating tradition with modern urban life will be among her priorities as mayor.
“The Old Bazaar is not just a tourist attraction, it is a living organism, a place of artisans, culture, art, and community. Our goal is to restore its authenticity and give it new life through smart urban and economic revitalization,” Shukova said.
As mayor, Shukova said she would work towards ensuring systemic support for artisans and small businesses in the Old Bazaar; improving infrastructure and the urban environment; creating a clear strategy for sustainable tourism and cultural offerings; and preserving the authentic architecture.
“The Old Bazaar will be a place where tradition and modernity meet. I believe in a Skopje that respects its past but boldly steps forward,” Shukova added.
In a press release, SDSM said the forum was attended by artisans, architects, cultural workers, and citizens who welcomed the initiative to revive the spirit of the Old Bazaar and enhance its role in the cultural and tourist life of the city.
