Skopje, 14 October 2025 (MIA) – SDSM’s candidate for Skopje Mayor, and the only female contender in the race, Kaja Shukova, said Tuesday there will be a second round in the elections, stressing that she will make it into that round.

“Of course, there will be a second round, it’s simple math. I will certainly make it into the second round,” Shukova said in a televised debate on Kanal 5 TV against her opponent from VMRO-DPMNE, Orce Gjorgjievski, who said he expects he will win the race in the first round.

Shukova said he entered the mayoral race due to her background in areas relevant to Skopje, such as the environment.

“I’ve spent my entire life working in the field of the environment, not only on environmental issues and not only in drafting legislation, but also in implementing projects. I’ve followed the decentralization process over the years, I know the challenges faced by the local self-governments, and that’s precisely why I decided to enter this race,” said Shukova during the televised debate on Kanal 5.
