Several people killed in Russian air raid on Donetsk basin

Kiev, 9 March 2025 (dpa/MIA) - At least 11 people were killed in a heavy Russian airstrike on the eastern Ukrainian mining town of Dobropillia in the Donetsk region late on Friday, according to rescue services.

The strikes on residential buildings also left at least 30 people injured, including five children, the rescue services said. Eight five-storey residential buildings and around 30 cars were damaged. Photos showed burning buildings, with about 20 flats said to have caught fire.

Russia used its Tornado multiple rocket launcher, according to the rescue services, as well as drones and an Iskander missile. The town has often been the target of attacks.

Five deaths were initially reported in the evening.

Since Friday, at least 20 people have died in the Donetsk region, Governor Vadym Filashkin wrote on Telegram.

In the Kharkiv region, also in eastern Ukraine, at least three people were killed, according to authorities. Several others were injured in a drone attack in the middle of the night.

The information provided could not be independently verified. Russia has been waging an all-out war against Ukraine for more than three years.
