Stuttgart, 2 May 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Several people were severely injured when a car drove into a group of people in the south-western German city of Stuttgart, the fire brigade said on X on Friday evening.

The driver of the vehicle has been detained, a police spokeswoman said.

While the fire brigade has described the incident as an accident, police have so far not commented on the context to the collision.

The incident occurred at the Olgaeck tram stop in the city centre.

Firefighters, rescue workers and police are at the scene which has been cordoned off.

According to the police spokeswoman, service at the stop has been suspended.

Witnesses are currently being questioned, she said.

The vehicle involved in the incident was a dark Mercedes G class luxury SUV.
