Skopje, 14 September 2025 (MIA) - Protection and Rescue Directorate (PRD) Director Stojanche Angelov said Sunday that breaking out of several fires in parallel is not a coincidence, noting this is a hybrid attack on the Government.
"Owners of the 'F Grupacija', which facilities were burnt down yesterday, said self-ignition does not start with such high intensity. We had two fires in parallel. Let's assume one broke out by accident, but two at the same time, I don't believe this is a coincidence," Angelov told a press conference.
According to him, everything started with the fire at the Vardarishte illegal landfill. Once it was put out, the Drisla landfill fire broke out.
"A landfill in Shutka settlement was also on fire a couple of days ago, and yesterday this electronic waste site. This is one coincidence too many. I don't believe this. I am right to doubt them but they are difficult to prove. If someone plants a fire, the traces burn in the blaze. This is our problem, because even if there were cameras on the site, they are also incinerated. That is why I say this is a hybrid attack. We can guess the motives but it is unexpected and impossible to have such heavy fires in mid-September," said Angelov.
He added that the line of fire was longer than 50 meters in Drisla shortly after it was reported, which is impossible if the landfill self-ignited, while adding "this also happened yesterday".
Angelov said many of the fires this summer had been planted, but evidence is difficult to find because they burn in the process.
On Saturday, wildfires were also recorded in Veles, Probishtip and Kochani.
