Serbian President Vucic meets with Russian Duma committee chairman Slutsky
Belgrade, 26 April 2022 (MIA) — Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic hosted Tuesday Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of Russia’s State Duma Committee on International Affairs, and discussed the war in Ukraine as well as Russian gas supply, according to MIA’s Belgrade correspondent.
"President Vucic noted that during his new term he would pay the most attention to Serbia’s economic development, which is why he is committed to peace and stability in the region and beyond,” said a press release from Serbia’s presidential office.
The Serbian president, according to the release, “expressed his hope that the conflict in Ukraine would end soon and that lasting peace would prevail."
Vucic was also cited as saying that Serbia would continue on the European path while preserving friendly relations with Russia.
Slutsky spoke about how Russia viewed the war in Ukraine.
They also discussed the further development of bilateral relations, including energy cooperation, and voiced expectations that a gas supply agreement would be reached in the near future. mr/
