Sela: European Front to vote against equitable representation bill

Skopje, 25 June 2025 (MIA) -- The European Front coalition will not vote for the new bill on equitable representation because this law would "guarantee the abuse" happening as part of the 'Balancer' program, which had initially been designed to promote ethnic diversity through affirmative action in public sector employment, Aliance for Albanians leader Zijadin Sela told a news conference Wednesday.

According to Sela, the law was developed without any transparency and was not available to members of the public although it was being sent to the Venice Commission for review.

"The prime minister, against the scenic backdrop of his deputy prime ministers, triumphantly announced that the government had passed the equitable representation law.

"Unfortunately, yet again they showed that they have no respect. No respect to the public or to the media," Sela said, adding that "no citizen of this country has any idea what kind of law they are speaking of."

Pointing to a document he had seen, Sela said on the two sheets of paper before him there were 15 articles of which only two were about equitable ethnic representation.

"Article 6 guarantees that 'anyone has the right to change their identity any time.' This guarantees the abuse happening with the 'Balancer.' Nothing more," Sela said.

He said the proposed law should put an end to gender discrimination, as well. mr/
