Skopje, 18 October 2021 (MIA) – According to processed data, mayors have been elected in 34 municipalities across North Macedonia. Of these, VMRO-DPMNE’s candidates won in 22 municipalities, SDSM’s in nine and DUI’s in three, the State Election Commission (SEC) announced on Monday evening. In the second round, 25 municipalities will see a showdown between candidates from SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE. SDSM candidates will run in the second round in a total of 32 municipalities and the City of Skopje, while those from VMRO-DPMNE in 28 municipalities. Candidates from Alliance for Albanians and DUI will face off in the second round in eight municipalities. In Tetovo and Zhelino, voters will choose between candidates from DUI and BESA in the runoff. The City of Skopje will have a second round between independent candidate Danela Arsovska, who won 85,657 votes, and SDSM candidate Petre Shilegov with 77,852 votes. The Council of the City of Skopje, SEC president Aleksandar Dashtevski told a press conference on Monday evening, will be made up of 17 councilors from VMRO-DPMNE, 12 from SDSM, six from DUI, four from Levica and two each from the LDP and DOM coalition, Alliance for Albanians/Alternativa, as well as Green Humane City. The other lists of councilors have been posted on SEC’s website. Centar Zhupa and Mavrovo-Rostushe will redo the first round after failure to meet the prerequisite turnout of one third of registered voters. VMRO-DPMNE candidates have been elected mayors of Aerodrom, Bosilovo, Butel, Veles, Vinica, Jegunovce, Kavadarci, Karbinci, Kisela Voda, Gazi Baba, Gradsko, Gjorche Petrov, Zrnovci, Ilinden, Mogila, Negotino, Novaci, Petrovec, Prilep, Sveti Nikole, Sopishte, Shtip. SDSM candidates have been elected mayors of Berovo, Bogdanci, Valandovo, Kriva Palanka, Krivogashtani, Krushevo, Delchevo, Dojran and Strumica. Three of DUI’s candidates won in the first round of the local elections, in Lipkovo, Plasnica and Saraj. No complaints have been filed to the SEC so far over the elections, Dashtevski said.
