Skopje, 10 October 2025 (MIA) - SDSM Skopje mayor candidate Kaja Shukova presented Friday her vision for the Old Skopje Bazaar that is currently "suffocated from filth, administrative chaos and institutional negligence."

"Our plan is clear, our vision is to give the Old Bazaar back to the citizens of Skopje. I have a solution. Daily cleaning, new urban equipment, public lighting and Wi-Fi zones, while observing its authentic appearance," said Shukova.

She promised support for shop owners and artisans, budget funds for refurbishing of shops, legal and financial assistance, and open craft schools.

"It is our goal to finally set up a management body for the bazaar, under the jurisdiction of the City of Skopje, thus eliminating labyrinths among institutions. This will provide quick and efficient service for all those living and working in the area," said Shukova.

She also announced that Suli An would be rehabilitated with the support of fine art students, along with the opening of art ateliers and cultural programmes.

"We have a plan for development of a digital platform for tourists, info-boards, improved pedestrian infrastructure and European culture routes, because the Old Bazaar must attract tourists, demonstrate vitality and potential to develop. This is not just another promise. This is a vision that will make the Old Bazaar the heart of Skopje once again," underlined Shukova.
