SDSM’s central board: All relevant parliamentary parties and MPs who see country's future in EU should support constitutional amendments

Skopje, 8 July 2023 (MIA) - The Central Board of the SDSM held an online session Saturday and reached several conclusions. Among other things, it is assessed that the screening process within the EU accession negotiations is progressing well and will soon be finished successfully. The government led by SDSM, together with the coalition parties, remains committed to the reforms needed to continue the country's European path and achieve the strategic goal of EU membership, SDSM said in a press release.

“The European integration of the country should be the responsibility of every political party. Therefore, all relevant parliamentary parties and all MPs who see the country's future as a full-fledged EU member country should support the constitutional amendments,” SDSM said.

In the next two weeks, the amendments to the Constitution will be reviewed by the Government and publicly announced. Then they will be submitted to the Parliament, which will be followed by a discussion according to the parliamentary procedure, reads the press release.

After the implemented economic measures in response to the global economic and energy crisis, the Macedonian economy continues to grow positively, economic activity is increasing, and inflation has been steadily decreasing for months and has already been reduced to a single-digit, at 9 percent.

“These are encouraging data and confirmation of the success of the economic policies of the Government led by SDSM and Dimitar Kovachevski. Until the end of the year, we expect this trend to continue, the economy to continue growing, the trend of increasing investments, new jobs and wages,” reads the press release.

SDSM reaffirmed the party's position given to the citizens of Bosilovo, Vasilevo and Novo Selo, regarding the procedure for opening a mine in Ilovica, launched by the Government of Nikola Gruevski and VMRO - DPMNE, at a time when Mickoski was his advisor.

“Without consultation and approval from the citizens, from the local population, without observing the entire procedure and without fulfilling all the environmental standards according to the existing legislation, harmonized with the European one, no permission will be given to open a mine. Only the citizens of the southeastern planning region, in the municipalities of Strumica, Bosilovo, Vasilevo and Novo Selo, can decide and should vote in a referendum on this important issue,” SDSM said.

Following the proposal of SDSM Secretary General Mile Zechevikj Vardarski, the members of the Central Board unanimously elected Mitko Trajchuleski as the new Organizational Secretary of SDSM.
