SDSM to elect new leadership, adopt new policies at November 24 congress

Skopje, 6 November 2024 (MIA) – The SDSM Central Board decided to hold the 30th party congress on November 24, 2024 to elect the new central board and to discuss the party’s future policies.

According to the Central Board decision, changes to the SDSM Statute will be proposed, including the introduction of another organising secretary and defining more precisely the principles for gender equality for the election of a SDSM deputy president, the opposition party said.

“Introducing two organizing secretaries comes as a result of the need to strengthen and improve the operations of the party,” said the press release.

SDSM at yesterday’s Central Board session discussed the current political and economic state of play in the country.

“The assessment is that in only five months, Hristijan Mickoski and VMRO-DPMNE let down the citizens breaking all election promises. The government is implementing flawed economic policies causing the living standards to worsen, prices to rise while wages drop, and the citizens are further burdened with fresh debts. Numerous scandals and wrongdoings are coming to light every day for which the government fails to take accountability, brutal partisation is enforced in institutions pushing aside professionals. The government of Mickoski and VMRO-DPMNE is yet to deliver any result, it has threatened the country’s European perspective pushing Macedonia further into uncertainty,” the press release stated.

According to SDSM, it was concluded that intensive work recently has led to the party consolidating and to restoring trust.

“In opposition, SDSM remains on the citizens’ side and will continue to oppose the flowed government policies,” said the press release.
