SDSM leader urges Government to pass set of economic measures benefiting citizens

Skopje, 11 September 2025 (MIA) - SDSM leader Venko Filipche said Thursday that Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski has admitted there would be no interventions in product prices.

"It is regretful to hear the PM saying there will be no interventions in prices, including the basic food products," Filipche told a press conference.

According to him, the Government has no intention to protect the citizens or balance the interests of large retail chains and the people's needs.

"In fact, the authorities told the citizens they are on their own, which shows they are carried away by power and have lost their sense of reality," said Filipche.

He added that the inflation has "decimated wages", while refuting PM Mickoski's claim that inflation is slowing down.

"This is not true, because the country has one of the highest inflation rates in Europe. The average inflation in the EU is 2.1 percent, here it stands at 4.4 percent. In August, food prices rose by 6.7 percent, while fruits and vegetables by over 11 percent. Our Government is the only one in the region that ignores the price hikes, since Albania and Serbia are already planning to increase the minimum wage as of next year," said Filipche.

The SDSM leader urged the Government to pass a set of concrete and efficient economic measures benefiting citizens, adding that the myth of VMRO-DPMNE's capability in the field of economy "has been shattered."

Filipche said Mickoski's statement that pollution has not increased from the fires at the Vardarishte and Drisla landfills is scandalous, adding that "people know what kind of air they have been breathing for a few days, while the authorities are doing nothing."
