Russia once again posts record number of Covid-related deaths
Moscow, 18 November 2021 (dpa/MIA) - Russia has record a record number of coronavirus-related deaths within 24 hours.
According to the authorities on Thursday, 1,251 people died with the virus within one day - more than ever before since the pandemic began.
Since the summer, this figure has seen reported records. Russia is the largest country on Earth in terms of surface area.
According to the data, there have been more than 260,000 coronavirus-related deaths in Russia so far. However, it is assumed that the number of unreported cases is much higher.
In Russia, almost 40 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated. The country's 146 million inhabitants have access to five different coronavirus vaccines.
Despite a work-free week decreed by President Vladimir Putin and partial shutdowns in several regions just more than a fortnight ago, the numbers remain dramatically high.
On Thursday, more than 37,000 new infections were reported nationwide.
By comparison, more than 65 000 new infections were reported in Germany on Thursday, and more than 98 000 have died in connection with the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic.
