Moscow, 30 July 2023 (dpa/MIA) – Moscow came under aerial attack early on Sunday, with two drones brought down by electronic jamming and another shot down by anti-aircraft fire, the Russian Defence Ministry reported.

Photos showed severe damage to a building in the high-rise Moscow City part of the Russian capital. Broken glass littered the street below.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin spoke of "insignificant damage" to the facades of two office buildings. "Ukrainian drones attacked tonight," he reported on Telegram.

Several ministries are located in the area, a major skyscraper project still under development.

The Defence Ministry held the "Kiev regime" responsible for the attack.

Observers in Moscow said they believed that at least one drone had struck a 50-floor building that houses some offices of the Ministry for Digitalization. There was no official confirmation of these reports.

State-run news agency TASS reported that a security guard had been injured in the attack.

TASS also reported that Moscow's Vnukovo airport to the south-west of the Russian capital had been closed for departures and arrivals. Flights were being diverted, while operations continued at other airports in the region.

Moscow has been the target of several drone attacks in recent months. Kiev does not usually claim responsibility for the attacks.

The Russian military has repeatedly hit Kiev with drones, missiles and cruise missiles, causing death and massive damage in the Ukrainian capital and in other Ukrainian cities.
