Cairo, 7 October 2025 (dpa/MIA) - The first round of talks on US President Donald Trump's Middle East peace plan ended in a "positive atmosphere," Arab media reported early on Tuesday.
The negotiations in the Egyptian town of Sharm el-Sheikh were expected to continue on Tuesday, Al Jazeera reported, citing the state-affiliated Egyptian TV channel Al-Qahera.
No details of the talks, which could last several days, were immediately available.
Since Monday, mediators have been meeting with representatives of the Islamist Hamas movement and Israel in Sharm el-Sheikh to discuss Trump's peace plan.
The Gaza conflict was triggered by the October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel carried out by Hamas and other Palestinian extremists, during which around 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 were abducted as hostages. Tuesday marks the second anniversary of the attacks.
More than 67,000 Palestinians have since been killed in the war in Gaza, according to figures from the Hamas-run health authority in the territory that are seen as credible by the United Nations and international organizations.
